How to Dispose of Used Dryers in Calgary thumbnail
Get rid of your old dryer responsibly.

Once you've upgraded to a new washer and dryer system, don't leave that used dryer sitting around your basement. Get rid of your old dryer responsibly by donating or selling it to someone who will reuse it or by disposing of it properly in Calgary's landfill system. Moving large items can be inconvenient, but residents who store or dispose of these appliances improperly can be fined by the city. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Donate used, working dryers to Calgary branches of charities that accept appliance donations. GE maintains a list of Canadian charities that take used appliances; this list includes the Salvation Army, Gifts in Kind and Habitat for Humanity (see Resources). Contact your local branch of these charities--or any other near you--to arrange a donation.

    • 2

List used dryers that still work for sale on Calgary Craigslist (see Resources). To get rid of the dryer quickly, list it for free pickup. Arrange to sell or give the used dryer to interested parties that contact you about your posting. Alternately, create a flier advertising the dryer for sale or pickup and post it in your neighborhood or apartment building. List a phone number so people can contact you about the sale.

Bring your working or broken used dryer to a Calgary landfill if you can't dispose of it by recycling or donating it. All three Calgary landfills maintain Throw 'n' Go Facilities that allow residents to dispose of used appliances for a fee ($12 to $15 in 2010).
