How to Mount Bookshelf Speakers

How to Mount Bookshelf Speakers thumbnail
Boxy loudspeakers are called "bookshelf speakers."

Bookshelf speakers are a type of speaker with wooden or plastic boxes surrounding the speaker. These speakers are particularly easy to mount because of the availability of mounting brackets that hook onto either the back of the speaker box or a mounting shelf where the speakers sit. Mounting brackets and mounting shelves are sold at electronic stores or online stores that sell electronic accessories such as Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and HTmarket.com.

Instructions

    • 1

Drill the mounting bracket, or the mounting shelf, onto the wall at the desired location for the bookshelf speaker. Most mounting brackets and mounting shelves are sold in kits that include all of the necessary hardware to install the bracket; the only additional equipment required is a drill to drive the screws into the wall. When bookshelf speakers are used as part of a surround-sound system, they act as side speakers, so mounting them in the corners of a room is usually a good idea.

    • 2

Drill the mounting bracket onto the speaker. Some kits include a separate bracket for the speaker; in this case drill the bracket onto the speaker using the hardware provided, and then slide it into the designated area on the mounted bracket. Other types of mounting bracket kits consist of only one piece. For these, install one end of the bracket onto the wall and the other end onto the speaker.

Place the speaker on the mounted shelf if you are using a shelf instead of a bracket. It will sit without screws or other equipment holding it in place.
