How to Dispose of Scrap Cars
If you've got a scrap car taking up space in your yard, find a way to dispose of it that puts money in your pocket or in the pocket of local charities. Scrap cars that don't run or are extremely old may still have many useful parts inside. With a little time and research you can find an organization that will dispose of your scrap car for you or you can attempt to sell the car yourself. While not all parts can be sold off, a surprising number can.

1
Donate your car to an auto donation program, choosing either a national program (see Resources) or one within your community. Most programs accept cars whether or not they run, plus they arrange a free tow so you don't have to do any work. They will sell your scrap car off for its usable parts and keep the money, plus you get a receipt showing your donation for tax purposes.

2
Sell or give your car to a salvage yard or junk yard. Find locations near you using the telephone directory. Some salvage yards pick up autos while others prefer you to bring it by.

3
Advertise your scrap car for sale for its parts. Take out a classified advertisement in your local newspaper or list the car for sale on community websites like Craigslist. If no one is biting and you want to move the car, list it for free.

Check with local fire departments. The Montreal Gazette notes that some fire departments need old cars to practice rescue techniques, so your scrap car might be a good candidate for this program. Some fire departments even provide a tax receipt showing your donation of the scrap car.
