How to Register a Domain Name in India

Domain names can be easily registered in India with the help of a domain names registrar who deals with such registrations. Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the governing body for assignment of domain names, requires all the domain names on the Internet to be unique. You can only register a domain name that is not already in use. For India-specific domains, you can select .in or .co.in as the domain name extension.

      Visit the website of a domain names registrar who registers domain names in India, such as www.godaddy.com/india or domain.indiatimes.com/WebSol/shopping/domainHome.sh

      Type the name of the domain that you want to register (for example, indiatravels) in the “Search domain” box, select the domain name extension (for example, .in) from the adjacent box and then click “GO”/“Search.” If the domain name that you selected is not already registered then you can register it, otherwise you will have to search for a different name and register it.

      Type the domain name registration information then click “Next.” This information includes your name, email address, country, zip code and phone number.

      Select the duration for which you want to register the domain name (for example, one year) then click “Next.”

      Pay for the domain name that you selected using your credit/debit card. If the payment is successfully made then you will see the domain registered message and will get an email with the registration details.
