When baking meat in the oven it is extremely important to take an accurate reading of the meat's internal temperature. This allows you to determine whether the meat has been fully cooked in the middle without cutting the meat open and releasing its juices. Most thermometers used to take such readings are wireless, and it is important to properly calibrate your thermometer to ensure your temperature readings are accurate. Does this Spark an idea?

      Fill a glass completely with ice, then pour water into the glass.

      Monitor the glass and wait for the ice to just begin to melt. Taking a reading before the ice begins melting or afterward gives you an off reading.

      Insert the tip of the thermometer into the glass of ice water and wait for the thermometer to adjust its reading.

      Look to see if the thermometer reading is near 32 degrees. It should be around this, give or take a degree or two as the water temperature changes. If the thermometer is giving you a temperature in the high 30s or below 30, the thermometer is not accurate. Because there are no direct calibration tools to fix the problem, you'll need to purchasing a new thermometer.
