How to Transfer Foreign Currency

How to Transfer Foreign Currency thumbnail
Transferring a foreign currency doesn't require much effort.

Nowadays, the modern financial system allows fast and easy money transfers, denominated in pretty much any currency (the euro, the Canadian dollar, the Japanese yen and others). Long gone are the days when it was difficult to send money abroad, especially to a developing country. Furthermore, there are plenty of options available to transfer money in a foreign currency, which allows you to choose the method that suits you best.

Instructions

Determine how much money you want to send and in what currency. It is very easy to convert foreign exchange these days, so you may want to consider sending the money in U.S. dollars and having the receiving party later convert it to the local currency. This may be a cheaper option, though there are many other ones as well.

Find out a number of money-transfer options available for your currency and destination and compare their rates. Basically, there are two ways to make a transfer in a foreign currency--with the use of a bank account and without it. A transfer using a bank account is much cheaper and includes money-transfer companies such as PayPal and Moneybookers. If you or the receiving party doesn't have a bank account, you can use Western Union or MoneyGram.

Choose the option of foreign currency transfer that suits you best and send the money. Be certain to arrange the method of transfer with the receiving party to make sure it also suits him. Remember that even if you choose to send money without using a bank account, you and the receiving party will still need to show some ID to the money-transfer agent in order to send and receive the transfer.
