How to Make an Audio Book Into Chapters
Most audiobooks that you can buy come with chapters set up so you can listen to one chapter at a time. Having chapters in an audiobook makes it easier to find where you left off or just listen to a specific chapter instead of scrolling through the entire book to find the right place. If you make your own audiobook you will have to create your own chapters using an audio-editing software program.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open your audio-editing software, such as Garage Band or Audacity (free for download), by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
-
2
Open your audiobook file by clicking "File" and "Open" to find the folder your audiobook is saved in, and click on the name of the audiobook.
-
-
3
Save the audiobook under a new name to preserve the original audiobook. It is extremely important that you complete this step first so you don't delete your original file. Click "File" and "Save as". Name this file "Chapter 1" or "[Name of your book] Chapter 1" or another similar title.
-
4
Fast forward through the audiobook until you come to the end of what should be chapter 1. Highlight the remaining audio that isn't in chapter 1 and press delete or backspace to delete the audio.
-
5
Press save.
-
6
Open the original audiobook and save this file as "Chapter 2" or another similar title. Keep the chapter title format consistent for a more professional look.
-
7
Repeat the above steps deleting all of the audio that isn't in chapter 2 and saving your work.
-
8
Repeat these steps until you have completed all of your chapters.
-
9
Send each chapter to iTunes by clicking on "Share" or "Export" and "Send to iTunes". When all of the files are sent to iTunes, create a new playlist by clicking the plus sign at the bottom left hand corner of the iTunes interface. Rename the playlist the name of your audiobook. Highlight every chapter and drag the chapters into the playlist on the left-hand sidebar.
-
10
Open the playlist and make sure the chapters are in the right order. Insert a blank CD and press "Burn to a disc" at the bottom right-hand corner of iTunes to burn the audiobook to a CD.
