How to Put Cat Whiskers on a Bow String
A great bow hunting trip can be ruined by the sound of a bowstring vibrating after a shot. Deer, elk, turkey and other game have keen senses and may be alerted by the sound. By installing one of the many bowstring silencers, such as the device known as cat whiskers, hunters can silence their bow strings for a more successful hunt. Cat whiskers work to absorb and disperse the vibrations of a bowstring after each shot.

1
Measure 10 inches on the bowstring from where it attaches to the bow. This will ensure the cat whiskers are installed in the right place to absorb maximum vibrations, say the experts at 3Rivers Archery.
-
2
Stack three of the 2.5-inch strips of cat whisker material. Wrap the stack around your bowstring horizontally.
-
-
3
Tie the strips to the bowstring with a piece of serving string. Serving string is a special nylon thread used in the construction of bows.
-
4
Trim the excess string down to 1 inch. The experts at Bow Strings Unlimited recommend burning the excess serving string off with a lighter to secure the knot.
-
5
Put a small dot of fast-drying glue on the bowstring at the 10-inch mark. Slide the cat whiskers up and onto the glue to secure them, recommends Bow Strings Unlimited.
-
6
Pull the end of each strip of cat whiskers material taut. Snip the edges of the material off with scissors. Each strip should separate into hundreds of small threads of material.

Tips & Warnings
The cat whiskers can be trimmed once they are separated if a more uniform or rounded shape is desired.
Adhesive is not required to attach the silencer to the bowstring, but it can prevent it from sliding during a shot.
Take care not to burn the cat whiskers material while melting the serving string, or you can ruin the silencer.
