If you suspect a person or a business of committing federal income tax evasion, there is something that you can do about. The Internal Revenue Service makes it easy for anyone to report suspected federal income tax evasion. The IRS even allows for anonymous reporting, if you do not wish for your identity to be known. The IRS does not reveal your identity if you do opt to disclose it. As of June 2010, you can only report federal income tax evasion by mail.

      Download Form 3949A from the IRS website (see References). It is the form for reporting suspected tax fraud.

      List as much information as you can about the person or business that you want to report for tax evasion. This includes name, address the tax violation and any facts that you may have about the tax evasion. There is a section for your name and address, but you are not required to enter that information if you prefer to remain anonymous.

      Mail your completed form to Internal Revenue Service, Fresno, CA 93888. This is the same address that is listed on the form.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you prefer, you can write a letter with the details instead of filling out Form 3949A.
