How to Prevent Car Mildew

Mildew is a form of mold that grows when there is excessive moisture. Mildew has a sour smell and is hard to remove once it has formed. Car interiors are susceptible to mildew when there are spills or when car windows are left open during a rain storm. There are ways to prevent mildew from occurring inside a car.

Things You'll Need

• Baking soda

Instructions

1. Keep car windows closed during humid or wet weather.

2. Clean up liquid spills as soon as they happen. Sprinkle baking soda on spills, let it sit for 10 minutes, then vacuum it up with a handheld vacuum.

3. Dry wet floor mats by taking them out of the car and drying them under the sun. If they aren't air-drying, use the baking soda method in step 2.

4. Roll down car windows during warm, sunny air to circulate fresh air through the car.
