How to Cut Glass with a Handheld Glass Cutter
Glass cutting is much easier than most people assume it is. A hand-held glass cutter is suitable for most jobs. You would only need to use power saw or glass cutting machine for making very difficult cuts. Glass cutters can be purchased at just about any hardware or crafts store for around ten to twenty dollars. It does not take any special practice or expertise to use a hand-held glass cutter.

Instructions

-
1
Wash the glass so there is no dirt or dust on it. Use a lint free cloth and glass cleaner. Let the glass dry completely before proceeding.
-
2
Place the piece of glass onto a glass cutting mat.
-
-
3
Trace the pattern you are going to cut on the bottom of the glass with a grease pencil.
-
4
Hold the glass cutter over the surface of the glass with the cutting wheel pointing straight down at the glass. Start at one edge of the glass and begin to score the glass along your pattern all the way to the other edge. When you "score" glass, you are not actually cutting through the glass, but rather weakening the glass so it can be broken to look like a clean cut.
-
5
Place a pencil under the score line. Press down firmly on the glass on each side of the score line until the glass breaks.
-
6
Repeat the above steps for as many cuts as you need to make.
