How to Verify PMI Certification

Save

The Project Management Institute (PMI) offers five project management credentials, which focus on varying levels of experience and specialties. The available certifications are Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM), Program Management Professional (PgMP), PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) and PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP). PMI offers a searchable registry where anyone can verify if an individual's PMI certification has been earned and maintained. This registry can be helpful to prospective or current employers to verify the certifications, or to credentialed individuals who want to verify that the registry contains an accurate entry for them.

  • Click on the "Search the Credential Registry" link on the PMI: Credential Registry Web page to enter the search criteria page (see Resource). Additional information about the Credential Registry is available on the Credential Registry Web page.

  • Enter the individual's last name in the last-name search criteria field. The last name is the only field that is required, but if the individual has a common name, you can reduce your results by also searching by first name, country and/or credential.

  • Analyze your search results. You will receive a list of credential holders that match the criteria you entered. This will include the full name, city, state, country, the name of the credential earned and the date it was earned.

  • If you don't see the individual you are searching for or receive a message stating, "We're sorry, no matches were found on the search criteria you entered," verify the spelling of your search criteria and repeat your search.

Tips & Warnings

  • All demographic information viewed in your search results will be from the credential holder's address on record with PMI.
  • PMI provides a disclaimer listed on its registry page stating that not all credentialed individuals may be listed in the registry, since it is voluntary.
