How to Make Embroidery Floss Bracelets

Embroidery floss bracelets are a staple of childhood. Sitting on the porch in the summer, bright colors of embroidery floss tangled around your fingers as you laugh with your friends and make matching bracelets, is a wonderful memory to create. With nothing more than a few colors of embroidery floss anyone can create wearable art to keep for themselves or to share with friends.

Things You'll Need

• Five colors of embroidery floss
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Masking tape
• Safety Pin

Instructions

Five Strand Braid

1. Cut five, 30-inch strands of different colors embroidery floss with your scissors.

2. Fold the strands in half and tie a loop in the middle. You will now have a loop, a knot, and two strands of each color.

3. Use a safety pin or tape to secure the loop to a rug or table. You can even place the loop around your big toe if you’re barefoot.

4. Group both strands of each color together. Lay them out straight, you will now have five thick strands of each color. If it helps, you can think of them as being numbered one through five from left to right.

5. Take the color farthest to the right (number five) and take it over the strand to its left (number four). Then under the next strand (number three), over the next (number two), and under the last one (number one). Pull it tight and leave it next to strand number one.

6. Continue weaving in the same manner with the next color on the right (number four). And then with number three and so on. Keep working from right to left until your bracelet is the desired length.

7. Secure your braid with a simple knot.

8. To join the ends, pull half the loose threads through the loop and secure with a square knot.
