As with just about any style, the foundation of any emo hairstyle is color. Hair dye can be used to instantly update and add life to your look or create a style with a whole new attitude. Things You'll Need

• Old t-shirt
• Gloves
• Comb
• Hair clips
• Bright color dye kit
• Black hair dye kit
• Plastic wrap

Instructions

1. Do not wash your hair or use any styling products for one day prior to dyeing. Allowing the natural oils to build up on your scalp will reduce irritation that could result from the chemicals in the dye. Be sure to wear an old t-shirt and gloves when handling dye products, to avoid ruining clothing and staining skin.

2. Separate the underside of the hair using a comb. Pile the rest of the hair on top of the head and hold in place with hair clips. The back section of the hair will be dyed a bright accent shade, to add depth and personality to the emo hairstyle. Choose a funky or more natural shade depending on your tastes.

3. Dye the underside of the hair a bright accent shade. Carefully read and follow all instructions included in the dye kit. Rinse the dye from the hair after the color has set. Towel dry hair thoroughly before moving to the next step.

4. Separate the hair in the same manner as described previously. This time clip the underside of the hair. Carefully apply jet black dye to remaining hair. You may wish to cover the underside of the hair with a strip of plastic wrap prior to application. This will protect the color of the underside from drips of black hair dye.

5. Rinse the black dye from the hair after the time recommended on the package. Remove the hair clips after all dye has been rinsed from the hair. Dry hair and style as desired.
