How Do I Switch Monitors on a Dell XPS Studio Desktop?
Whether your current monitor is broken or you want to upgrade to a larger display, switching the monitor on a Dell XPS Studio desktop takes only a few minutes. Since the computer supports both the DVI and VGA monitor interfaces, you do not need to worry about your new display being compatible with the computer. However, it is critical that you install the new monitor correctly to avoid damage to it or the desktop PC.

Unplug the monitor currently in use from the back of the Dell XPS. The monitor plugs into a VGA or DVI port on the lower back of the system. VGA monitors use cables with blue connectors, while DVI displays generally have white connectors. Loosen the two fixed screws on the connector to release the cord and pull it out.

VGA ports are smaller than DVI ports. Plug the video cable into the VGA or DVI port on the back of the monitor. Tighten the fixed screws to hold it in place. Depending on the monitor, it may have come with a white DVI or blue VGA cable. If the display has both, use the DVI as it provides a higher-quality picture. DVI ports are white and contain holes for evenly spaced rows of pins with a small horizontal slit on the side. VGA ports are blue, have room for three rows of alternately spaced pins and are smaller than DVI ports.
Plug the video cable into the VGA or DVI port on the back of Dell XPS desktop. The computer port looks exactly the same as the port on the back of the monitor.
