How to Clean Containers
Plastic containers are one of the most practical inventions for keeping and transporting food stuffs of all varieties. The up-keep of these containers is easily manageable, even if you don't own a dishwasher. These plastic containers are an excellent investment for any home chef, and worth taking care of. Most containers are advertised as being virtually stain and odor resistant, but the most common stains on these containers come from tomato-based foods and gummy foods. Things You'll Need
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Olive oil
- Cloth
- Vinegar
- Dish soap
- Mustard
- Bleach
- Rubber gloves
- Soft sponge

Preventing Stains Before They Happen

Spray nonstick cooking spray in the container before adding any tomato-based food, such as spaghetti.

Rub inside of container with olive oil.

Wipe containers with a cloth moistened in vinegar.

After use, wash containers in cold water and detergent before placing it in the dishwasher.
Removing Red Stains

Spaghetti can potentially stain containers. Apply a thin coating of mustard to the stained area of the container.

Let containers sit for eight to 10 hours.

Wash containers in hot, soapy water or in a dishwasher.
Gummy and Sticky Stains

Fill a container with an even solution of water and bleach.

Submerge containers in solution. Rinse well.

Wash containers in hot, soapy water. Rinse well.

Tips & Warnings
Upon purchasing your containers, give it a good rinse in a soapy solution. Rinse again in clean water and then dry.
When storing containers, do not seal the lid. Air circulation is necessary, or else containers lids can potentially crack. Use only a soft sponge to clean your containers. Always use plastic or rubber gloves when dealing with bleach. Do not place containers made before 1976 in the dishwasher.
