How to Plant a Triplet Lily
The triplet lily, or Brodiaea laxa, is commonly referred to by many names including grassnut, wild hyacinth, brodiaea, long rayed triteleia, deer potato and Ithuriel's spear. The triplet lily produces starry, blue or purple blossoms in the end of spring or beginning of summer. The triplet lily, native to northern California, grows best in U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zones 6 to 8. The best time to plant triplet lily corms is in the fall. Prepare a planting location that provides full sun and well-draining soil for your triplet lilies. Clear the area of all foliage, rocks and debris.

Incorporate 3 to 4 inches of organic matter, such as compost, peat moss, sand or well-rotted manure into the planting bed. Work this into the soil to a depth of 12 inches.

Use a hand trowel to dig planting holes every 4 inches, to a depth of 5 inches. Place a triplet lily corm in each hole with the pointed side facing up and cover with soil.

Soak the area with water to firm the soil around planted triplet lilies. Add a layer of at least 2 inches of mulch over the planting area.
