How to Replace the Power Antenna for a 1998 Acura Integra
The Acura Integra is one of Honda’s flagship line of luxury cars that were first introduced on the market in 1986. In keeping with the vehicle’s smoothed body style, power radio antennas came as standard equipment. If the power antenna for your 1998 Acura Integra ceases to operate properly, you should consider replacing it with an original equipment unit. The task of replacing the electric power antenna motor can be accomplished with basic hand tools within a short period of time.

1
Open up the hood of your vehicle and disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid the possibility of electrical shorts. Open of the trunk and remove the trim panel from the driver’s side of the vehicle to gain access to the power antenna assembly. The assembly will be black in color and located directly under the antenna mast hole.
-
2
Disconnect the power connection harness located on the upper-left portion of the motor assembly. Disconnect the thick antenna cable from the upper-right connection terminal located on the motor assembly.
-
-
3
Locate the exterior antenna nut protruding from the vehicle’s fender and unscrew it counterclockwise with the specialty antenna wrench nut (you may also try placing a rag over the nut and unscrewing it with a pair of pliers if you cannot obtain a proper-size wrench nut). After removing the antenna nut, use a flat-head screwdriver to carefully pry the rubber spacer off the fender.
-
4
Locate the motor assembly’s mounting nut near the bottom of the motor bracket inside the trunk area. Remove the mounting nut with a ratchet and appropriate-size socket. Remove the small spacer within the rubber bushing sticking out of the fender hole and the bushing itself with a flat-head screwdriver.
-
5
Remove the old antenna motor from the vehicle. If your replacement antenna did not come with the mast pre-installed, carefully feed the new mast into the new motor until its teeth are firmly seated within the motor housing.
-
6
Check for smooth operation of the mast by moving it in and out of the housing with care. Apply a small amount of penetrating oil to the antenna nut threads. Reinstall the new motor assembly in the bracket location properly.
-
7
Replace the bushing and spacer back on the fender. Install and tighten the antenna nut with a pair of pliers or the specialty antenna wrench nut. Replace the motor assembly’s mounting bracket nut with your ratchet and appropriate-size socket. Reconnect the power connector and antenna cable to the motor assembly.
-
8
Reconnect your vehicle’s negative battery cable and turn on the radio to check for proper operation of the power antenna.
