How to Transfer Songs to an MP3 Player

Unless you're using an iPod, you will have multiple options when it comes to transferring music to your MP3 player. One of the easiest is via Windows Media Player (although any media player that can synchronize to a device will work). Windows Media Player can transfer songs and any applicable artwork (if supported) to your MP3 player. Additionally, Windows Media Player can convert any unsupported audio files into a playable format for your MP3 player. Most MP3 players also support drag and drop via Windows Explorer (the file management system used by Windows).

Instructions

  1. Windows Media Player

    • 1

Start Windows Media Player. Connect the MP3 player to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

    • 2

Click the "Sync" button. After a few seconds, the name of the MP3 player will be displayed below the Sync button.

    • 3

Drag and drop the audio files that you want on the MP3 player into the "List" window below the Sync button. The order in which files are arranged does not matter as they will be categorized according to the tag properties (e.g. artist or album title).

    • 4

Click the "Start Sync" button. Any incompatible files will be converted before being transferred to the MP3 player. Once the process is complete (as shown by the onscreen progress bar), you may detach the MP3 player.

    Drag and Drop

    • 5

Connect the MP3 player to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The name and drive letter of the MP3 player will pop up in the Windows notification tray. Remember the name and drive letter as you will need it shortly.

    • 6

Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar. Click "Computer" ("My Computer" for Windows XP users). Double-click the name of the MP3 player (see Step 1). This will open the root storage directory of the device. The root storage directory is where all files are stored; however, most MP3 players have sub-folders (e.g. Music or Video) in the root storage directory to help keep things organized.

    • 7

Drag and drop the audio files that you want on the MP3 player into the "Music" folder (it may be titled "Audio" or something similar). If no such folder exists, simply drop the files anywhere within the root storage directory window. The order in which files are arranged does not matter as they will be categorized according to the tag properties (e.g. artist or album title).
