Disconnect the water supply hoses from the bottom of the faucet. Depending on your faucet's age, the couplings at the end of the water supply hoses could either be plastic or metal. Plastic couplings can be loosened with a pair of pliers. With a metal coupling, purchase or rent a specialized tool called a basin wrench to loosen the couplings. Basin wrenches are specifically made to work in tight areas.
