How to Make Needlepoint Piano Bench Covers
A needlepoint piano bench cover shows off your needlepoint skills, while adding padding and a style element to a piano bench. Carefully measure the piano bench seat. Add 4 inches to the seat’s height and width to determine the size of the needlepoint canvas.

Begin the bargello needlepoint pattern in the left corner of the needlepoint canvas. Bring the needle from front to back through the seventh grid square down in the first row.

Bring the needle up four rows to the grid directly above the first stitch insertion point. Move to the right, up one row, for the second stitch. Bring the stitch up four grids. Repeat, moving toward the right, for the third stitch.

Move down one grid row for the fourth stitch. Cover four grids while moving up. Repeat for the fifth and sixth stitches.

Continue across the canvas in the same manner, creating the bargello or flame stitch. Subsequent rows will follow the base zigzag line. Use a different color for each row, following a four-color repeat.

Cut the foam padding to fit the piano seat.

Stretch the completed needlepoint over the foam on the piano seat and staple the needlepoint edges to the inside of the seat, beginning at the middle of each side, moving toward the corners.

Carefully fold the corners and staple them securely to the inside of the piano seat. Cover all needlepoint edges and staples with masking tape.
