How to Wire Coax Cable

How to Wire Coax Cable thumbnail
Connect two audio/video devices together with a coaxial cable.

Although coaxial cables are one of the older methods of hooking up two audio/video devices together (such as a television and DVD player) it is one of the simplest as it only requires a single cable connection. If you want to hook two different devices together and need to wire the connection, using a coaxial cable only takes a few moments to properly set up once you are sure the cable is in good condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Look over the tips of the coaxial cable. There is a small pin in the middle of the cable. This pin must be straight to wire the two devices together. If the pin is bent, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to straighten the pin. Be careful when performing this action as bending the pin too fast may cause the pin to break.

    • 2

Place the coaxial cable onto the "Out" port of the device you want to send the audio/video signal from (such as a DVD player or VCR).

    • 3

Twist the cable connection clockwise to securely fasten the cable onto the connection port.

    • 4

Connect the opposite end of the cable onto the "In" Port on the television and tighten the wire the same way you did with the other port.

    • 5

Power on the television and the connected device, and change the TV to channel "3." The audio and video from the connected device now streams over the television.
