Remove all of the mold growth in your home. This will prevent mold from spreading when you increase air circulation in your home. Throw away items that have become overly contaminated with mold and items that cannot be cleaned.

Check the relative humidity in your home using a moisture meter. Check all areas of your home including, crawl spaces, attics, bathrooms, basements and closets.

Lower the humidity level in your home by installing a dehumidifier. This is particularly important if the relative humidity of your home exceeds 55 percent. Mold, as well as other types of biological contaminates, thrive in moist environments.

Increase air circulation in your home by opening doors and windows, cleaning air ducts or installing an attic and/or bathroom fan.

Check your home for water leaks or places where water is pooling. This is especially important in attics, basements, laundry rooms and bathrooms.

Replace leaking pipes. Leaking pipes will condense or rust and should be replaced and covered with insulation.
