When installing a new light fixture in your wall, whether inside or outside, using a remodel junction box can be one of the simplest ways to attach a new electrical box to the wall. Remodel junction boxes, also known as “old work" electrical boxes are commonly made of plastic but metal remodeled boxes exist. Instructions

    • 1

      Mark the location on your wall where you want to attach your light fixture. Trace around the template provided with the light fixture remodel junction box onto the wall. Carefully cut along the trace line with the keyhole saw to remove the drywall.

      Pull the electrical wiring for your wall light fixture into the remodel junction box through a knockout at the back of the box. Push the light fixture junction box into the hole you cut in the wall.

      Turn the screws clockwise on the junction box to flip the wings attached to the screws up behind the drywall. Continual turning of the screws clamp the wings to the drywall and attaches the remodel light fixture junction box to the wall.
