How to Obtain Birth Certificates in New York State
Birth certificates in New York state are handled by the New York State Department of Health. Only the person named on the birth certificate, the person's parent or a person holding a New York State court order, can obtain a person's birth certificate. In order to obtain your birth certificate, you should have a valid driver's license, passport, state-issued ID card or military photo identification card. If you do not have a photo ID, two utility bills with your name and address and a recent letter from a state or federal government agency will suffice.
