A soft cloth is used in the cleaning process.

The Vicks V4500 humidifier does not use a filter, but it should be cleaned regularly. Vicks recommends performing weekly cleaning if the humidifier is used on a daily basis. Keeping the humidifier clean will help it operate better, and will ensure that the vapor that the humidifier creates is clean and free of harmful bacteria. The cleaning process will remove scale buildup. Cleaning more often than once a week may be necessary if the home has hard water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the humidifier off and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Allow at least three minutes for the water to drain out of the motor housing after turning the unit off.

    • 2

Remove the water tank and motor housing. Set the motor housing upside down so the pick-up tube will not be damaged. Empty the remaining water out of the water tank and humidifier base.

    • 3

Loosen the three screws that hold the protective cover onto the motor housing. The screws will not come completely out of the cover. Remove the cover from the motor housing.

    • 4

Rotate the pickup tube in the direction of the "Off" arrow to loosen it from the housing. Remove the pickup tube.

    • 5

Fill the base with white vinegar. Set the pick-up tube into the base along with the vinegar. Allow it to stand for five minutes.

    • 6

Dampen a soft cloth with white vinegar. Wipe out the base and the protective cover with the cloth. Clean the pick-up tube with the cloth to remove any scale build-up.

    • 7

Rinse the base, pick-up tube and water tank thoroughly with warm water to remove the vinegar and scale.
