DIY Pendant Lamps
A pendant lamp is a lamp that hangs from the ceiling and has a shade of some sort covering the bulb. They are useful because they illuminate a wide area without taking up the space a floor or table lamp would. If you find a great pendant lamp, but don’t like the look of the shade, you can easily modify it to whatever look you want. Choose a fun fabric that matches your house and add a beautiful ribbon to tie it all together. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the protective plastic sheeting of a pendant lamp drum shade. It can just be pulled off gently along the seams where it is attached to the shade.
-
2
Lay a piece of fabric out horizontally on a table, with the printed side of the fabric facing down. The material should be long enough to cover the plastic sheet with a ½ -inch overhang on each side.
-
-
3
Coat the fabric with spray adhesive. The whole surface of the fabric facing upward should have the adhesive sprayed on it.
-
4
Place the pendant shade at the left end of the fabric with the open ends facing forward and back, rather than to the right and left.
-
5
Set the plastic sheeting down on the sprayed fabric and smooth it out. The plastic should be placed with the side of the shade that will face outward facing down.
-
6
Fold the excess material over each side of the plastic sheeting and press the edges firmly down.
-
7
Wrap the fabric covered sheeting around the pendant fixture and secure it with hot glue from a glue gun.
-
8
Place the ribbon wherever you want it so it covers the top and bottom joins of the shade, securing it with hot glue. You can either place it along the top and bottom of the shade, an inch from the edge or place it along the edges and fold the excess underneath.
