How to Make Money in Auto Detailing

Save

Owning a vehicle comes with periodic maintenance; however, many times, car owners may not want to clean out their car. As an auto detailer, you can clean and detail their vehicles for them. If you love cars, having an auto detail business or detailing vehicles part-time may be the job for you.

Things You'll Need

  • Auto cleaning supplies
  • Acquire a variety of detailing equipment. Ensure that you have a variety of waxes, polishes, scratch removal compounds and car wash supplies. You'll also need a wet/dry vacuum, window cleaner and tire and rim cleaners.

  • Set up a location for you to perform your detailing work. You could rent or lease a space, but all you really need is a driveway, carport or a parking lot. You may also consider going to the home or business of the customer and performing the detailing work if he prefers. You can rent or buy a small canopy, big enough to drive a car under to keep out of the heat if no carport is available.

  • Print up business cards and advertise your services with auto dealerships, valet services and at car parts stores such as Autozone or O'Riely's.

  • Hang flyers around your local community, take out an ad in the classifieds, or run a radio or television ad to get more potential customers aware of your business.

Tips & Warnings

  • A pressure washer could be a valuable asset in an auto detailing business. This will enable you to get rid of tough mud and clean a vehicle much faster.
