How to Get an Online Library Science Certification
To obtain a true librarian position, librarians need a master's degree in library science, often abbreviated as an MLS or MLIS. Several accredited colleges offer 100-percent online MLIS programs; most take one to two years to complete (on a full-time basis). After completing the degree, librarians can work in public libraries, academic libraries, school libraries, archives or business libraries. Librarians with MLIS degrees earned $42,240 to $65,300 in 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
