How to Put a DVD Onto a Video iPod
The iPod can be a great tool for passing time while in a waiting room or traveling, and the ability to watch movies makes it even more desirable. Today more and more DVDs are coming with a free digital download to allow the consumer to load it onto their iTunes and iPod. Additionally iTunes makes it simple and affordable to purchase movies to load directly onto your iPod, or you can use a third party software to rip your personal DVDs to your computer and load them onto your iTunes collection.

Downloading Your DVD to iTunes

Open iTunes and click on the iTunes store on the left column and open the movies section by clicking on the tab titled "Movies." This should bring you to the menu, where you can locate your desired DVD movie. Once the movie has been found, click on the purchase button, and enter your iTunes password. The movie will automatically download into your iTunes collection and be ready to load onto your iPod.

Insert your instant download disk into your computer and open iTunes. You should be prompted for a code given with the DVD that you purchased. Once you've submitted the code, you will need to insert your iTunes password, after which the DVD movie should begin to download. It will automatically be placed into your movie library, where it will be immediately available for loading onto an iPod.

Download a third-party DVD ripping software. There are software downloads available that can rip a movie from a DVD into an MP4 file, which can be viewed on an iPod or iPhone. Once the file has been ripped from the DVD, open it in iTunes by right clicking on it and selecting "open with..." and selecting iTunes. It should then be loaded onto your iTunes library, where it can be loaded onto an iPod.

Plug the iPod into your computer and open the iPod menu by clicking on the iPod in the side bar under "Devices." From here click on the "Movies" tab to open the movies menu.

Click the "Sync Movies" box on the top left to enable movies to download onto the iPod. You can now select to automatically sync your movies, or you can choose which movies are synced to your iPod by selecting them individually from the selection at the bottom of the screen.

Click the "Apply" button on the bottom right and allow the iPod to sync.

Tips & Warnings
It is only legal to have a digital copy of a movie if you either purchased the digital copy from a licensed distributor or if you already have a hard copy of the movie. It is illegal to have possession of a digital copy of any movie that you have not purchased.
