Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a piece of plywood that is at least 80 inches wide. The typical king-sized bed is 76 inches wide, and you want your headboard to be slightly wider to prevent it from looking too small compared to the mattress. Choose how high you want the headboard to go, and get the plywood cut at a hardware store to match your specified dimensions.

    • 2

Purchase the foam batting and fabric of your choice from a craft store. Make sure you cut the fabric at least 2 inches larger than your plywood to leave room for folding and stapling.

    • 3

Lay the foam batting flat on the floor, and allow it to sit for a few minutes to completely flatten out. Spread a thin layer of foam-safe adhesive on the entire surface of the plywood board. Lay it down directly onto the foam batting, pressing slightly to remove any creases in the foam.

    • 4

Fold the batting over the edges, and staple to the backside of the plywood.

    • 5

Lay out the fabric on the floor. Place the padded plywood directly onto the fabric, and fold over the edges to staple. Pull the fabric firmly enough to keep it taut, but not too tightly, or any pattern will look distorted when stapled. Staple fabric around the edges of the entire board.

Mark where you want the headboard to be hung on the wall using a pencil. Drill small holes into the wall, and attach mounting brackets, using a level to ensure they are evenly placed. Attach mounting brackets to the upper left and right corners of the backside of the headboard.

    • 7

Hang the headboard on the wall, and adjust bedding as necessary for your tastes.
