How to Apply for an Alberta Grant
Alberta offers a number of grants and subsides for non-profit organizations which seek funding for philanthropic work. Cultural and social organizations with a mandate to to enrich their community can avail themselves of funding as well. Fortunately, Alberta has streamlined and organized this grant application process with a series of online applications. Enjoying the best possible chance for assistance is only a matter of knowing where to apply.

Verify that you are eligible. In addition to specific program requirements, you must be a legal resident of Alberta to qualify for any of these grants.

Choose which programs best matches your project. Alberta Foundation for the Arts offers grants to both projects and individuals. Application terms run from February to September.
Alberta Grants are funded with lottery revenues and are paid out under seven different programs. A full listing of the guidelines can be found in the resources section.
The Community Facility Enhancement Program and Community Initiatives Program preserve and create community institutions, respectfully. Together, these two cover most small non-profit institutions in urban Alberta. The Alberta Historical Resources Foundation is also funded with Lottery Funds, but only offers grants to historical organizations and museums. The Alberta Film Development Program provides incentives for film companies willing to spend over 25,000 in Alberta. Proof of funding is required to apply. The Human Rights Education and Multiculturalism Fund is tailor made for initiatives trying to foster racial, cultural, and gender related equality and cooperation.

Remember, even if you don't fit in with the categories above, Alberta has an "Other" category for worthy projects that don't fall under its established programs. However, these may not be applied for directly and can only be requested by a member of the Legislative Assembly.

Open the correct application page. The link for both CFEP and CIP applications may be found in the references. Applications for the other six programs will not be available until September 2010.

Choose the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) funds and upgrades existing facilities if you are already contributing to the community and would like to continue to do so.

Choose the Community Initiatives Program (CIP) by clicking on the underlined word apply in the top left side of the screen. This programs provides up to $75,000 for developing new resources to serve the community. These could be care centers for youth or the elderly, or simply equipment for volunteers serving the needy.

Tips & Warnings
Organizations can only submit one application per project/initiative per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).
Response time is determined by how complete your application is when it is submitted. An incomplete application could delay your response, or worse, push back the review of it for another season.
