Remove AKA index from your Family Tree Maker software.

The Family Tree Maker 16 is a program by Broderbund that enables you to create your family tree on your computer by accessing the Ancestry.com database, which has access to public birth and death records of your family members. The AKA (Also Known As) is used as an optional alias for individuals you add to your family tree, and you can remove it from the program to reduce clutter in your software's family information index and display the individual's birth name. Once removed, the individual's name will appear as it was originally added in the program.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Family Tree Maker 16 program on your computer, and click the individual you wish to edit in the program.

    • 2

Click the "Edit Individual" button on the right side of the program window, and click the "General" tab.

    • 3

Delete the nickname in the AKA field, and click "OK."

    • 4

Select "View" at the top of the program window, and select "Index of Individuals" from the pull-down menu. Click "Options," and click the checked box next to "Use AKA if Available" to remove the AKA. Click "OK" to save the changes and exit the View window.
