How to Tell If It Really Is From Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co. jewelry is a symbol of luxury around the world. The company is known for its expert craftsmanship and its use of the highest-quality metals and precious stones. Tiffany is increasingly popular due to its sterling silver line at a lower price point. As a result, many counterfeit pieces are circulating on resale sites online and through unlicensed vendors. Look for the Tiffany stamp. Each piece of authentic Tiffany jewelry will be stamped with the Tiffany insignia (Tiffany & Co. or T&Co.) and the type of metal from which the piece is made. For example, all sterling silver jewelry is stamped "925."

Inspect any links. All links of Tiffany pieces are soldered together with no visible gaps and a smooth joint. Links are not pinched, and there should be no space where the ends of the links meet. Links that are pinched or do not meet, or have a rough joint, are likely indicative of counterfeit jewelry.

Check the engraving. Tiffany engraving employs a thin, precise font. If the piece you are examining has a thick or sloppy font, don't purchase it.

Hold the jewelry in the palm of your hand. See how it feels. All Tiffany pieces are made from real metals, which give them substantial weight. If the piece feels light, flimsy or flexible in the palm of your hand, it's probably a fake.

Notice the packaging. All Tiffany pieces are packaged in a robin's-egg-blue suede-cloth pouch that is soft to the touch. The pouches have either a drawstring or a snap closure. Drawstring pouches are rounded, with flat tops; snap pouches are square. All pouches bear the Tiffany & Co. logo in the brand's official font. Authentic pouches have smooth, tight seams with matching thread. Beware if the pouch looks flimsy, is made from a material other than suede cloth or has sloppy seams. A fake pouch is often a sign of fake jewelry.

Consider your point of purchase. If you purchased your jewelry from a source other than a Tiffany store or the company's official website, it may not be authentic. Tiffany makes all of its jewelry in the U.S., and does not maintain production facilities in China or elsewhere overseas (a common ploy by online resellers hawking counterfeit jewelry). Tiffany jewelry is not sold wholesale, and prices are rarely, if ever, reduced. If the price seemed too good to be true, you may have purchased a fake.
