How to Install a Lexmark 1400 Wireless Printer on a Mac G4

Wireless printing is a boon for laptop owners and multiple-computer households. You are no longer tethered to one location when you want to print. Just as a computer can connect to the Internet using a wireless card, it can connect to a printer. The Lexmark 1400 wireless printer is compatible with Mac G4 computers like the PowerBook G4 and iMac G4.

Instructions

    • 1

Close any open applications on your Mac G4.

    • 2

Load the software CD included with the printer into the computer. You can also visit the Lexmark Product Downloads page to download the correct printer driver.

    • 3

Double-click on the CD icon or the downloaded file and double-click “Install.” Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

    • 4

Position the printer so it is close to your Mac. Plug it into the wall and turn it on.

    • 5

Look on the back of the printer. Next to the serial number is the MAC address. Note the last six numbers.

    • 6

Open the “Applications” folder, double-click on the “Internet Connect” icon and select the “AirPort” icon.

    • 7

Choose “print server XXXXXX” from the menu. The “XXXXXX” represents the last six digits in the Mac address. The printer will join to the wireless network.
