How to Install a Wired & Wireless DSL
If you've signed up for a broadband DSL account, you can install a wireless router to create a WiFi spot in your house. Some DSL providers provide a wireless router in addition to a standard DSL modem for easy wireless installation. If your DSL provider doesn't provide a standard wireless router, you can find them online or at electronics stores. Installation of both your wired DSL modem and your wireless router should take less than an hour.

1
Install filters or micro-filters on all phones and phone devices. You should receive several filters and instructions with your DSL installation kit.
-
2
Insert one end of an Ethernet cable into your DSL modem and insert the other end into the Ethernet port on your computer. If you have a USB modem, you'll insert the USB cable instead of the Ethernet cable.
-
-
3
Plug in the modem and restart your computer. It may take a few moments for both devices to be fully powered up.
-
4
Open a web browser on your computer. It should automatically open to your DSL provider's online setup page. Enter the username and password provided with your DSL account. You should now be connected to the Internet.
-
5
Turn the computer off and unplug the modem.
-
6
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the computer and plug that end to the wireless router. If you have a USB modem, take the Ethernet cable that came with your wireless router and connect the DSL modem to the router.
-
7
Power up the wireless router by plugging it in. Wait for the power light to turn solid.
-
8
Restart the computer and plug the DSL modem back in. Wait for all three devices to be powered up. The computer should automatically detect the router.
-
9
Launch your web browser again and enter the configuration IP address provided in the wireless modem manual.
-
10
Use the default username and password to configure your wireless DSL network. Set an SSID (network name), set an encryption pass phrase, then set your network password. Your wired and wireless DSL should now be ready to use.

Tips & Warnings
Before you begin, make sure your account activation date has passed. Some DSL providers will ship equipment before the service date begins. You won't be able to get online, even if you have your equipment installed properly, until after your service activation date.
Make sure your filters or micro-filters are installed on any phone device, including satellite and fax machines. Filters prevent data transmission interruptions.
