How to Create a Certificate of Award for a Distinguished Scholar
During the years of an individual's schooling there will be many opportunities to prove the ability to be considered a distinguished scholar. Those may come from competitions, science fairs, or simply grades. When someone of scholarly ability is to be rewarded for achievements, it is often appropriate to bestow upon them a certificate of achievement. There are many different ways that these certificates can be created.

Using a Software Template

Open a certificate template in your design program of choice. Microsoft Word, Publisher and Powerpoint have many of these templates with their software, as do Adobe products. In most programs, like MS Word, templates can be opened from the "Tools" menu.

Type the name and accomplishments of the recipient in the designated fields. Many templates will also have designated areas for date. Do not put the name of the certificate giver on the certificate yet.

Print the certificate. In the bottom right corner there will be a line for the certificate giver to sign. Signing should be done in ink and in cursive.

Download a certificate template from the internet. Many of these templates are free and can be downloaded in pdf format. A popular website for this is Hoover Web Design: http://www.hooverwebdesign.com/free-printables/printable-certificates/

Print the certificate in color on card stock.

Fill in the necessary information on the certificate with ink and in cursive. Date the certificate if there is not a designated area for date.

Tips & Warnings
Having a calligrapher write the names on the certificates will make it look more professional. If using a template in a program on your own computer, change the font of the recipient's name to make it stand out on the certificate.
