How to Reinstall Windows XP on a Dell 8600 Notebook
Windows XP can be reinstalled on the Dell 8600 notebook, both Professional and Home Edition, using the operating system's installation CD. Reinstalling the Windows XP operating system may erase files you have saved to your notebook. Start your Dell 8600 notebook and insert the Microsoft Windows XP installation CD into the notebook's CD/DVD drive. Click the "Install Windows XP" button located on the "Welcome to Windows" XP page that displays.

Click to select the "Upgrade (Recommended)" option under the "Installation Type" section of the Welcome to Windows XP Setup page. Click the "Next" button at the bottom of the window to continue.

Review the Windows XP License in the window that pops up. Click on "I accept this agreement" to continue with the reinstall if you agree to the terms listed in the license.

Type the 25-digit Windows XP product key into the provided boxes to verify the authenticity of the software, and click the "Next" button once complete. Select your preferences on the "Get Updated Setup Files" window and click the "Next" button at the bottom.

Complete the reinstall by following the instructions displayed by Windows XP on your screen. Windows XP will finish the reinstall process on your Dell 8600 notebook.
