Checking the USB cable is part of the troubleshooting process when connected to a computer.

The Nikon Coolpix S1 is a 5.1 mega-pixel digital camera with a 2.5 inch LCD monitor. It has a 3x zoom lens with 4x digital zoom. If problems occur with the Coolpix S1, performing troubleshooting steps will help identify possible causes. Most common issues can be resolved by completing the troubleshooting process.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the shutter-release button halfway if the monitor is blank. The camera may be in standby mode. Pressing the button halfway brings it out of standby mode. Replace the batteries if the monitor is still blank.

    • 2

Unlock the memory card if the display shows "Memory Card is Write Protected." Slide the write protect tab on the memory card to remove the write protection lock.

    • 3

Wait a few moments before taking pictures with the flash if the flash lamp blinks. A blinking flash lamp means the flash is charging.

    • 4

Turn the camera off and on again if pictures are out of focus. A focus error may be occurring. Restarting the camera allows it to initialize and refocus.

    • 5

Clean the lens with a soft, lint-free cloth if pictures are smeared. Fingerprints or dirt on the lens will distort pictures.

    • 6

Check the USB cable if the PictureProject software does not start when the camera is connected to the computer. Make sure the USB cable is firmly connected to the ports on the camera and on the computer.

    • 7

Replace the batteries if the camera turns off without warning. Low batteries will cause the camera to shut down on its own.
