Instructions

    • 1

Place the four pieces of 2- by 4- by 54-inch lumber on a worktable. Mark the studs from one end at 18 and 36 inches. Separate two of them about 18 inches apart.

    • 2

Set one piece of 2- by 4- by 18-inch lumber on the lines and at the top, and secure them to the 2- by 4- by 54-inch lumber with 2-inch drywall screws. This forms a ladder of sorts. Repeat this with the remaining two pieces of 2- by 4- by 54-inch lumber and the three pieces of 2- by 4- by 18-inch lumber.

    • 3

Stand one of the ladders on its long edge. Set one of the pieces of 48- by 18- by 3/4-inch plywood on one of the pieces of 2- by 4- by 18-inch lumber. Secure it to the 2- by 4- by 18-inch lumber with 1 1/2-inch drywall screws. Do this for each of the remaining pieces of 48- by 18- by 3/4-inch plywood.

    • 4

Next, put the shelves (48- by 18- by 3/4-inch plywood) on the 2- by 4- by 18-inch lumber on the other ladder and secure them in the same manner as before. Secure the two pieces of 2- by 4- by 51-inch lumber at the top and the bottom of the 2- by 4- by 54-inch lumber with 3-inch drywall screws.

    • 5

With a stud finder, locate the studs in the desired wall for installation of the shelves. Mark the walls accordingly. Stand the garage storage shelf upright and set it on the floor. Push it against the wall so the 2- by 4- by 51-inch lumber is touching the wall. Secure the storage shelves to the wall with 3-inch drywall screws.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adjust the height of the shelves to different positions before building the shelves, if desired.

  • Do not leave power tools within reach of children.
