How to Seal Concrete Block Walls

Properly seal your concrete block wall

A concrete block wall is an investment that you want to keep protected so that it lasts a lifetime. While not indestructible, a sealed concrete wall is capable of standing up to harsh weather for many years. Unfortunately, without a proper seal, water can penetrate the concrete and slowly break it apart, especially in regions of the world where the temperature drops below freezing. Seal your concrete block wall and improve its longevity.

Things You'll Need

• Wire brush
• Wood
• Concrete sealant
• Paint tray
• Paint roller
• Paint brush

Instructions

1. Remove dirt and debris from the face of the concrete block wall with a wire brush.

2. Insert a spare piece of wood or paint stirrer into the concrete sealer and slowly stir to achieve a uniform consistency.

3. Slowly pour the concrete sealer into a paint tray.

4. Apply the sealer directly onto the face of the concrete blocks using a paint roller. Aim for a single, even coat of sealer on every visible part of the wall.

5. Apply the sealer to hard-to-reach places using a small paintbrush. After the sealer has dried for 24 hours, apply a second coat to fully seal the concrete.
