1. Make sure your lamp shade is in usable condition. It’s courteous, but not required, to clean items before dropping them off for donation. If the lamp shade is damaged, inform the donation recipient and verify that a donation can still be made.

   There are several ways to locate a donation center with a drop-off location in your area. For example, Goodwill and The Thrift Store Directory allow you to search online for the closest donation centers. Once you’ve decided where you would like to donate, you can drop off the lamp shades to receive your tax deductible receipt.

3. Another option: Offer your lamp shades to the general public for free. Many people can find creative ways to use old lamp shades. For example, lamp shades can be used in arts and craft projects or dyed to bring a new touch to an old room. You can donate your lamp shades by posting on the “free” section of sites like Craigslist or by labeling them as “free” at a garage sale.
