Disable the LAN on your Motorola 2210 DSL modem for open access.

Connecting to your Motorola 2210 DSL modem simply requires having the network password, whereas disabling the firewall on the modem allows other devices to gain access to the modem. Referred to as the local area network (LAN), you can disable your private IP address and instead configure the modem's settings to public sharing. Once public, your DSL modem connection will be open to any user in your network range and your computer may be at risk for unauthorized access.

Instructions

    • 1

Type "http://192.168.1.254" in the URL field at the top of your browser window. Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to open the Motorola Connection Manager.

    • 2

Enter the 10-digit access code in the "Access Code" field, and click the "Connect" button. The access code can be found on the bottom of your Motorola modem, according to the Motorola 2210 user manual. Click the "Advanced" link on the left side of the browser window, and click "Connection Configuration" in the sub-menu.

    • 3

Click the circle next to "Yes, use public IP address" and click the "Save Changes" button to apply the new configuration settings.

    • 4

Click the "Restart" button to restart the Motorola modem, and wait 30 seconds for the modem to restart itself. Shut down all computers connected to the modem, and turn them back on to apply the changes.
