How to Obtain a Liquor License in Michigan

Michigan businesses selling liquor must have licenses.

In the state of Michigan a liquor license must be obtained by any business that intends to sell or provide alcohol on its premises. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission requires all business owners apply for a liquor license with them by filling out and submitting an application for a liquor license and paying all of the appropriate fees associated with the application process.

1. Download a copy of the Michigan liquor license application (see Resources) or contact the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for an application.

2. Fill out the application for the Michigan liquor license. Required information includes your personal information, business information, the type of liquor license for which you are applying and whether you are applying for a new liquor license or requesting a transfer of a current liquor license.

3. Include a check made payable to the State of Michigan for $70, which is the amount of the inspection fee that is required before any liquor license application can be considered. Mail the application to:
