How to Fix Winsock XP Runtime Error 53

Runtime error 53 occurs on the Windows XP operating system when the computer is searching for a specific DLL (dynamic link library) file but the file is not in the expected location. Resolve this issue by manually locating the DLL file and moving it to the necessary directory, a process that generally takes less than 10 minutes to successfully complete.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and select "Search."

2. Select "All Files and Folders." Type in the name of the DLL reported during the Runtime 53 error and press "Search."

3. Right-click the DLL file and select "Properties." Click "Details," look at "Folder Path" and write down the location of the file.

4. Right-click "Start," click "Explore" and navigate to the location of the DLL file.

5. Drag and drop the DLL file from its current location into the "System32" folder in the "Windows" directory on the "C" drive.
