How to Increase RAM Without an Extension

There are two ways to increase the amount of memory (RAM) in your computer. You can increase it by adding more physical memory extensions to your computer or you can increase the size of the virtual memory file in the computer. Increasing the virtual memory file uses up hard disk space and is a cheap alternative to buying more physical memory.

      Right-click on the "My Computer" icon in the Start Menu, click "Properties" and open the "Advanced" section.

      Click on "Settings," go into the "Advanced" section, click "Change" and then click on the drive that contains your virtual memory file.

      Change the values for "Maximum size" and "Initial size" to be whatever you want them to be.

      Click "Set," "OK," "OK" and "OK" again to save your settings.
