Instructions

  1. General Maintenance

    • 1

Check and make sure that the fountain's pump is completely submerged in water. This will ensure that there is no water being wasted, which will allow the owner to refill the fountain less often.

    • 2

Keep the fountain running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This will help prolong the life of the pump because it will not need to be turned off and on daily or weekly, which can cause the build up of damaging debris.

    • 3

Fill the fountain with distilled water. The use of distilled water will help slow down the formation of algae, which can cause damage to the fountain water pump.

    • 4

Maintain a high water level. This will mean filling the fountain more often, but a higher water level will keep the fountain from becoming too hot, which could cause damage.

    Cleaning

    • 5

Unplug the fountain from its power source.

    • 6

Remove any liquid, rocks and other decorations.

    • 7

Mix 2 to 3 drops of liquid dish soap with 3 cups of water. Dip an unwanted toothbrush into the mixture and clean off the rocks and the bottom of the fountain.

    • 8

Disassemble the fountain pump by removing any tension clips that are holding the pump together. Clean out the inside, outside and every component of the pump with the toothbrush and soap mixture.

    • 9

Reassemble the pump, place the rocks back into the bottom of the fountain, fill the fountain, plug it back into the wall and turn it on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean any algae that may have formed inside the fountain pump by wetting the end of an unwanted toothbrush with alcohol based mouthwash, such as Listerine. Change the water in the fountain once a month to cut back on the formation of algae. Clean the indoor fountain every one to three months.
