How to Clean Light Bar Lenses

How to Clean Light Bar Lenses thumbnail
Use glass cleaner to clean your light bar's lenses.

Your emergency vehicle's light bar warns drivers of you approaching as well as signals your arrival at the scene of an accident or other emergency. If the lenses on the lights are dirty or dull, the brightness of the lights are not as strong or effective. This leads to others not noticing the lights, and an additional accident may occur. When cleaning light bar lenses, you never want to use a solution that may damage the lenses or the light bar's casing.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a Phillips or flat head screwdriver to remove the four or more screws holding light bar's lenses in place. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands clean.

    • 2

Lift the lenses gently out of the light bar and place them on a flat surface.

    • 3

Spray glass cleaner on the outside and inside of the lenses.

If glass cleaner is not available, mix 2 tablespoons of dish-washing soap and 3 cups of warm water in a pot. Use a funnel to pour the soap mixture into a 16 oz. spray bottle. Shake the bottle to mix the solution.

    • 4

Wipe both sides of the lenses with a lint-free cloth or rag. For stubborn stains and debris, respray the glass cleaner or soap solution; then let it stay on the stains for three minutes before wiping clean.

    • 5

Dry the lenses with a clean, lint-free cloth or rag. Reinstall the lenses and secure the screws.

Tips & Warnings

  • For spot cleaning, do not remove the lenses from the light bar, but spray the outside of the lenses with glass cleaner or a soap solution then wipe with a lint-free cloth.
