How to Replace the Fuel Line on a Weed Trimmer

A weed trimmer is a power tool used to remove weeds and tidy your plants and lawn. The tool runs on fuel, so you may occasionally have to replace the fuel line if it hardens or breaks over time. The fuel line carries the fuel from the tank to the carburetor. You can easily replace the line yourself, extending the life of your weed trimmer and saving you money on hiring a repairman. Go to your local hardware store for a replacement fuel line. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the carburetor off the pins holding it in place. The carburetor is where the fuel line attaches from the fuel tank.

    • 2

Remove the fuel line and fuel filter from the carburetor. The lines can just be pulled off the fuel inlets.

    • 3

Pull out the stopper holding the fuel line and filter in the opening of the fuel tank. This is the rubber piece that keeps the oil from spilling out of the tank and the line and filter both run through the stopper to bring the fuel to the carburetor. Some weed trimmers don't have rubber stops, but have gas caps instead. Twist the caps clockwise to open the fuel tank.

    • 4

Remove the hardened fuel line from the stopper. If the line is very hard you may have to cut it to get it out. If your weed trimmer has a gas cap, pull the old fuel line from the side of the fuel tank using needle-nose pliers.

    • 5

Rub baby soap along the length of the new fuel line and inside the fuel line hole in the stopper or around the hole at the bottom of your tank.

    • 6

Insert the new fuel line into the hole in the stopper. Make the fuel line long enough to reach the bottom of the fuel tank on the side of the stopper where the filter head is. Leave the rest of the line on the other side of the stopper to connect to the carburetor. If you have another model of a weed trimmer, insert the fuel line through the hole at the bottom side of the tank.

    • 7

Feed the filter head and the length of fuel line into the fuel tank and push the stopper into place. Make sure the stopper is securely pushed into the hole. Or pull the new fuel line from the fuel fill hole and insert the filter head into the fuel tank.

    • 8

Reconnect the fuel line to the upper fuel inlet and the fuel filter to the lower fuel inlet. Put back the carburetor on the pins from which you removed it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a fuel line from the same manufacturer which made your weed trimmer for an easy fitting of the fuel line.

  • Make sure the weed trimmer is turned off before you replace the fuel line.
