1
Sand an old desk with sand paper, removing any paint or wood treatment. Choose a color and paint the desk. Apply a coat of wood stain with an old rag in lieu of paint for a more antique effect. Allow the desk to dry completely.
-
2
Sew a hem around a piece of 1 yard decorative fabric, so the four lines of the fabric all have a clean line. Lay a piece of cotton batting on top of the desk, securing in place with a few drops of hot glue. Trim of any excess batting.

3
Drape the hemmed fabric over the batting on top of the desk. Attach the fabric in place with a staple gun, inserting staples around the edge of the top of the desk so the fabric stays in place.

Place a table lamp and table mirror on top of the desk. Place a jewelry box on top of the desk as well–and fill the compartments of the box with makeup.
